Our criminal defense attorneys have the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to help you or your loved one get the best possible results in their criminal case. Attorneys James Winters and Veronica Chidester are backed by extensive and impressive experience as former prosecutors.
Attorney James C. Winters
Attorney Winters started working at the Travis County Attorney’s Office in 2014. He was a misdemeanor prosecutor whose cases ranged from DWI to assault, domestic violence, and more. He moved to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office in 2017 as a felony prosecutor, trying first-, second-, and third-degree felonies.
Beginning in the Juvenile Division, he eventually spent most of his time in the Family Violence Division, trying cases ranging from aggravated kidnapping to manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and other domestic violence charges.
Mr. Winters ended his work in Travis County in the District Attorney’s Office with the White Collar Crime Division. He handled charges such as misapplication of fiduciary property, identity theft, debit/credit card abuse, money laundering, and more.
In 2020, he began working at the Bell County District Attorney’s Office as a felony prosecutor, where his cases included capital murder, first-degree felonies like murder, aggravated robbery, and organized criminal activity.
Mr. Winters is also an educator in his field. He has been involved with The University of Texas School of Law since 2014. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Advocacy Survey Course. He is also an adjunct professor at St. Edward’s University in the Criminal Justice Department.
Attorney Veronica Chidester
Veronica Chidester has used her knowledge, skills, and passion for advocacy in cases ranging from Justice of the Peace to federal criminal charges and everything in between. She attended The University of Texas at Austin for undergraduate and law school. She worked in the legislature and was a lobbyist before earning her law degree. At UT Law, she discovered a love for trial advocacy.
After law school, Ms. Chidester worked at the Texas Attorney General’s Office in the Law Enforcement Defense Division, where she tried federal cases in various jurisdictions throughout Texas. During this time, she visited almost every prison in the state to familiarize herself with the justice system.
Veronica went on to work at the Travis County Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted cases ranging from Class C traffic tickets to high-risk assaults. She became a chief prosecutor in misdemeanor court and then worked as the chief prosecutor in the domestic violence division.
She then went on to the Travis County District Attorney’s Office in the special prosecution division handling family violence cases. Later, she moved to the criminal trial court division, where she dealt with various felony cases.
